Medtronic, a prominent player in the medical technology sector, is currently informing over 3.8 million individuals about a recent data security incident that resulted in the compromise of their personal and medical data. The breach took place in April 2026 when the well-known ransomware group ShinyHunters gained unauthorized access to the company's corporate IT infrastructure. On April 17, ShinyHunters listed Medtronic on its Tor-based leak site, alleging the exfiltration of more than 9 million personal data records along with terabytes of corporate information. This week, the company commenced the process of dispatching written notification letters to all affected individuals. These letters confirm that hackers obtained patients' personal and medical information, encompassing names, contact information, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and various health-related details.
